Am I eligible for this progamme?

This course is most suited to individuals who are at least 16 years old, have a high school education and wish to progress onto a degree at university, or the Undergraduate Level 4/5 Extended Diploma in Management with COTHM Online.

Successful completion of the full Level 4/5 Health and Social Care course and final year of an accredited Undergraduate Degree programme will act as a springboard to a professional career in health and social care services. The course pulls together theory and practice for those who wish to work with people in a caring environment. It is suitable as a base for those who wish to move onto one of the many health or social professions or those who want to keep their options open.

Level 4 module listing

1. Academic study skills: This module develops capability in learners to study in higher education system effectively. Students will be able to analyze critically and be reflective.
2. Communicating in health and social care: Learner will be able to develop understanding of communication methods used in social and health care settings. They will also understand its importance in producing best service outcomes.
3. An introduction to healthcare policy; Learners will be able to identify elements that can influence the health care and related policy development. This unit will also allow them to analyze health care policies to understand challenges that can occur in policy development, implementation and support.
4. Reflective practice: Learners will be able to learn about different kinds of reflective practices. Reflection is important for on and in practice health and social care concepts which helps to relate theory with practice.  
5. Managing people in health and social care: Learners will understand the people recruitment process, management and development process in case of health and social care environment. Learners will also examine procedures that are part of individual’s management and their facilitation in change management.
6. Sociology: concepts in health and ill health: this module will teach learners to grab knowledge and application about health and ill health sociological concepts which will enable them to understand the society in contemporary context for health and ill health perceptions. Learners will understand society demographical structure and their impact in the related context.

Level 5 module listing

1. Principles underpinning health and social care: Health and social care also have it’s professional code of conduct and this module will help learners to understand the policies, values and theories related to this profession.
2. The management of quality in health and social care: Health and social care services are incomplete without following a set of quality parameters. This module will develop an understanding of different service quality parameters and their evaluation in the related field.
3. Research project: In this module, a learner will practice critical analysis by doing an independent research project as per the standards of higher education system.
4. Partnership working in health and social care: This unit will help learners understand the importance of working with each other positively in health and social care context. Learners will understand partnership in three ways i-e., by people empowerment which enables them to take right decisions at their own, examining partnerships among various professionals and examining partnerships at organizational level.
5. Working with service users with complex needs: This module focuses on developing learners understanding related to illness, disability and health related issues. Learners will also explore the idea that how health professionals develop capability in physically or mentally challenged people to deal with these challenges at their own.
